It's the 175th anniversary of our Norderney cape and of course we want to celebrate. To mark this special anniversary, we are organizing a street party on Bgm.-Willi-Lührs-Straße on 29 June from 2 to 9 pm. We are planning a pleasant celebration for us islanders and guests of the island with a varied program at the foot of our landmark.
In addition to the cozy get-together in a relaxed atmosphere, visitors to the festival can test their knowledge of the Cape in a quiz, for example. An exhibition from the city archives on the history of the building will certainly help to answer the questions. In the late afternoon, Mayor Frank Ulrichs will announce ten winners drawn by lot, who can look forward to a nice prize. Anyone who wasn't lucky can still take home a souvenir of the anniversary. Maria Coprian from Norderney has come up with something very special. More is yet to be revealed.
But that's not the end of the street festival program: The observatory will be on site with a professional telescope and will provide an unusual view of the sky when the sky is clear. A team from the Astronomischer Arbeitskreis will be on hand to answer questions about the universe and the celestial bodies.
And of course Norderney's primary school children won't miss out either. They can have a flea market in the area of the street closed off for the festival. There is no need to register - just come along, bring a woollen blanket or similar, place toys, books etc. on it, have fun and earn a euro or two along the way.
A street festival without music? Unthinkable! And so the musicians of the newly founded choir "Neue Ostfriesische Welle" (NOW), the duo "Strandgut" and the also brand new band "Wir:So!" will provide the music and will certainly make not only their own vocal chords but also those of the festival visitors resound.
Celebrating makes you hungry and thirsty. For your physical well-being, there are delicacies from the barbecue and the fish counter and members of the council serve drinks.
Any financial surplus will be donated to a social organization on the island. "We are really looking forward to the street festival, where we can celebrate our cape and island landmark together, which has been on the town's coat of arms since July 1928," says Mayor Frank Ulrichs.
