The town of Norderney provides containers for riders to collect the poisonous ragwort

As in the previous year, the town of Norderney has set up a container for collecting poisonous ragwort in the immediate vicinity of the Junkmann riding school in a pasture area on Karl-Rieger-Weg.

This project serves to protect the horses that graze on the surrounding pastures, as the ragwort poses a significant risk to their health. This measure was prompted by a resolution passed by the Environment Committee in 2023.

Riders are requested to collect the ragwort growing on the grazing areas and dispose of it in the containers provided for this purpose. To ensure safe and effective disposal, we ask everyone involved to collect the collected plants in tear-proof, airtight bin bags and then throw them into the container. The airtight packaging in the bin liners is important to counteract drifting, avoid hazards and facilitate disposal.

The container will remain at the above location up to and including September and may be collected for emptying in the meantime.

With this measure, the town of Norderney hopes to contain the spread of the dangerous ragwort and protect the health of the horses in the long term.
