Electronic residence registration: Registration and re-registration is now also possible from home

Following a successful pilot and test phase, a new useful online service is now available in the form of electronic residence registration (eWA). With this innovative solution, the town of Norderney is taking a major step towards digitizing its administration and is leading the way in the district of Aurich.

The eWA is a practical online procedure that allows citizens to register or re-register their place of residence from the comfort of their own home. Instead of going to the town hall in person, the required information and documents can be submitted via a secure online portal.

For the electronic residence registration you need:

  • an identity card with eID function (chip)
  • a smartphone with an ID card app
  • an official user account (e.g. BundID)
  • a confirmation of residence.

Once all the necessary data has been entered at home, it is automatically transmitted to the Citizens' Registration Office. The applications are checked and processed there. If everything is correct, a confirmation e-mail is sent. The digital registration confirmation can then be downloaded. The new address can also be conveniently updated via the app on the ID card.

Bundesdruckerei will then promptly send you a new address label by post for you to affix yourself.
