Mayor Frank Ulrichs welcomed the 21 exchange students from the French twin town of Mourmelon-le-Grand on Monday, May 8, 2023. Together with their teachers Marie Questroy and Charles Henri Depezay as well as the French teacher from the Kooperative Gesamtschule (KGS) Judith Asmuth and secondary school teacher Christian Mischke, the group met in the Conversationshaus.
The mayor told the young people about the history of the island, its many special features and the development of tourism. The seventh to ninth graders, who had made many excursions during their time on the island, also asked the mayor a few questions. For example, they were interested in the type of construction of the local houses and their brick facades, why the streets are paved and why there are large black sand tubes on the beach.
Ulrichs: "I was very pleased to welcome a group of students from our twin city again after such a long time. It was great to have you there. I am sure that you will remember this week for many years to come."
