Many Norderney residents remember Bonno Eberhardt, who passed away in September 2018. The amateur historian became famous through several series of articles about the life of the island's population. Bonno Eberhardt interviewed many contemporary witnesses and meticulously documented their knowledge. The result is an extensive and valuable collection. It contains not only the articles published in the Ostfriesischer Kurier and the Norderneyer Badezeitung, but also a large collection of other eyewitness accounts.
By a stroke of luck, his records came into the hands of Karl-Wilhelm Fischer, a volunteer at the bathing museum, some time ago. He sifted through the existing material and was delighted with the systematic and almost professional archiving of the documents. In order to preserve this treasure for posterity in the long term, it made sense to include this collection in the Norderney town archive, which the community of heirs agreed to. This is based on the assumption that it is also in Bonno Eberhardt's interest that his collected and documented knowledge is made accessible to all those interested in Norderney's history.
The city archivist and museum director Matthias Pausch is delighted that these valuable records will enrich the collection in the city archive in the future.
