Following the construction of the WattWelten, the new port terminal and the reorganization of the traffic facilities, the bicycle parking facility created in 2021/22 complements the reorganized Molenkopf.

As part of the city's strategy to upgrade the urban development of the port location, the construction of a bicycle parking facility that meets today's requirements was intended to remedy the situation at the ferry terminal, which has been unsatisfactory for decades.
As part of the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety's funding program "Climate Protection Projects in the Municipal Environment - Municipal Guidelines", with a focus on "Sustainable Mobility", the creation of a flood-protected parking facility for a total of 400 bicycles was planned and implemented. The planning takes into account the requirements of the FGSV guideline and the recommendations of the ADFC for bicycle parking facilities. Based on the funding quota of 50%, a grant of around €775,000 was approved.

Despite the numerous difficulties that accompanied the construction work, which began in February 2021, such as the discovery of an old oil-contaminated cistern in the subsoil, delivery difficulties with the green roof and the complex workshop planning of the timber construction, the facility was put into operation in March 2022 and finally completed in December 2022. The unusual design of the facility combines functionality and comfort. The success of the mobility station thus represents a further gain for the entire port area.
