Norderney wants to become a Fairtrade Town - Join in!

Last year, the council once again decided to participate in the international Fairtrade Town campaign. The cooperative comprehensive school on Norderney has been a Fairtrade School since 2017.

Fairtrade Towns promote fair trade at a local level and are the result of a successful network of actors from civil society, politics and business, who work together in over 800 municipalities to promote fair trade locally. Of the East Frisian islands, only Langeoog has received this award to date.

Following the council's decision, a steering group has now been set up to coordinate local fair trade activities. It is the driving force behind the commitment, networks the players within the municipality and promotes dialog between politics, business and citizens.

The involvement of retail stores and restaurants is also a prerequisite for a Fairtrade Town. If they offer at least two different fair trade products, they can already participate as supporters in the Fairtrade Town campaign.

Public institutions such as schools, associations and church or religious communities can also support the campaign by implementing information and educational activities on fair trade and offering fair trade products.

The following businesses, companies, institutions and organizations already support us:

  • Story Of Mine, Langestrasse 4
  • My island - the store, Am Kurplatz 1
  • My Island Market Manfred Kruse, Strandstraße 6
