The Building and Environment Department is responsible for urban development planning, building planning and building regulations matters and for environmental development impulses on the island of Norderney.
As a traditional building authority, we inform and advise prospective builders on building applications, provide information on existing development plans and the applicable building regulations. In the best case scenario, we are therefore always involved when buildings, properties and, as a result, the townscape of our town are changed. In addition, cooperation with the building inspectorate of the district of Aurich in Department III is an established practice.
The two main pillars that form the basis for our aforementioned tasks are preparatory urban land-use planning and binding urban land-use planning. In cooperation with external planning and expert offices, our offices develop urban land-use plans, statutes such as design statutes and conceptual development approaches for the needs-based qualification of neighborhoods and urban building blocks. Our department is also responsible for the planning and implementation of various urban construction projects, which are often carried out within a wide range of funding frameworks. These can be smaller as well as larger funding measures, such as the completed "An der Mühle" district redevelopmentproject or the current "Mühlenallee Green Quarter" funding measure Important parts of these processes are internal city working groups and committee consultations as the basis for political discussions and coordination, as well as specialist planning cooperation with state and district authorities and various stakeholders on Norderney.
The increasing role of public participation also enriches our work in many ways.
On these pages we have compiled extensive information for you on all aspects of construction and the environment. You can gain an insight into urban land-use planning, tenders and contract awards and find everything you need to know about the Lower Saxony Wadden Sea National Park, the Watt Welten National Park and much more.
