Volunteer fire department

An island that is home to up to 50,000 people in the summer needs a powerful force, because reinforcements naturally arrive late or not at all.

The operations of the Norderney volunteer fire department are very diverse. In addition to the conventional challenges of firefighting, accident rescue and recovery, there are of course also many tasks typical of the island that the Norderney fire department has to face time and again. The missions range from cleaning up oil residues and chemicals on the beach to searching for and rescuing people who are surprised by the sometimes strong high tide on the beach and in the dunes.

This is just a small insight into the work of the Norderney Island Fire Brigade.
