Getting married on Norderney

Would you like a civil island wedding or would you like to make the biggest promise to yourself as an islander in your home country? We are delighted that you would like to say "I do" with us!

Marriages take place on Norderney on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays at 11:00 and 12:00. The dates are released exactly one year in advance and bookings are made exclusively via our online wedding calendar. It is possible that some dates may not be available for booking, e.g. due to internal training courses or if they are reserved for islanders.

After a successful reservation, the next step is to register your marriage.

This must take place in Germany at the registry office of the main or secondary residence of one of the spouses and can be carried out at the earliest six months before your wedding date.

We are responsible for registering and checking the marriage requirements for people wishing to get married who are resident on the island. Please contact us in advance by telephone so that we can tell you which documents you need to provide. Unfortunately, the simple birth certificate that you usually have at home is not sufficient for the civil status documents.

For marriages of German nationals abroad, we issue a certificate of no impediment to marriage as part of the examination.

Marriage dates for Norderney residents:

The registry office has reserved a certain number of wedding dates, from April to September inclusive, for residents with their 1st place of residence on the island. These can be requested by telephone or e-mail. However, there is no entitlement to a specific date, as the dates are selected in advance and at random. If you have a preferred date, this must be booked regularly via the wedding calendar.

As over 90% of marriages on Norderney involve couples who live on the mainland, we advise you to contact your local registry office in good time. Your registry office will send us the documents after a successful check and as soon as we have received all the documents, we will send you a written confirmation of the date and some information sheets about your marriage on Norderney.

Important: Please understand that we must receive your documents at least three months before your appointment. If we have not received your documents within this period, we will release the appointment for booking accordingly and the claim will lapse.

If you have booked the date in such a way that it is simply not possible to meet this deadline, please don't worry! Simply get in touch with us to discuss whether it is possible to implement the project in advance.

Please refrain from requests to hold another wedding on days that are already fully booked or on other days of the week.
