City archive

The city archive - a historical competence center

Buildings from past eras, cultural, political and economic traditions - above all the archival documents (files, maps, plans, graphics, photographs, etc.) preserved in the Norderney town archive form the historical heritage of our town and determine its cultural and historical identity.

The town archive preserves and makes accessible the written material created by the activities of the council and administration as well as the town of Norderney's own companies, insofar as this must be kept permanently for legal or historical reasons. The historical records also include written material and other documents from companies, political parties, associations, schools and individuals. The town archive ensures that the documents are preserved, makes them accessible to the public and communicates the historical heritage.

With its extensive collections, the town archive is the "memory of Norderney" and an information and documentation center for the history of the town and its citizens.

The town archive is a competent point of contact for all matters relating to the history and culture of the island of Norderney. The archive is also responsible for the management of the branch office of the district adult education center in Norden and the professional management of the Nordseeheilbad Norderney Museum (bade~museum).
